Regionalization Report & Recommendations
St. John’s, NL – The Honourable Krista Lynn Howell, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, has received and today has released the Joint Working Group Report and Recommendations on Regionalization.
The topic of regionalization has been discussed, researched and studied over the course of many years in Newfoundland and Labrador, and Professional Municipal Administrators (PMA) welcomes the release of the report and recommendations from the Working Group.
The Report contains recommendations for moving forward with regional governance in our province. Prioritized in the recommendations is the understanding that any approach toward regionalization must be a collaborative and locally led process. The report and its recommendations are built on the knowledge that some municipalities currently face challenges as demographics change, populations shift and decrease, and service needs increase. With the collaboration of all stakeholders, we are confident that a strong plan is key to ensuring the success of all Newfoundland and Labrador communities.
PMA’s Board of Directors, on behalf of the organization and its members, endorses the spirit and the intended outcomes of the report. We look forward to working with all stakeholders on the operationalization of the Report.
